One Day Intensive Workshops
Herbal Pharmacy & Plant Based Medicine Making Intensive
with Dr. Marisa Marciano ND
This session will provide an overview of the basics of understanding and applying herbal medicines using both vitalistic and mechanistic philosophies.
Participants will:

Review some of the major plant constituents, what they do in the body, and how to best extract them into our formulas including:

Flavonoids

Volatile Oils

“The Bitter Principle”

Saponins

Alkaloids

Vitamins & Minerals

Learn how to identify a plants major actions and constituents through the use of your senses (taste, smell, sight, intuition etc.)

Understand how to choose the best form to administer an herb based on its pharmacology (e.g. mucilage in water, alcohol as a preservative etc.)
-
Learn how to create really fabulous therapeutic formulas through food and drinks using a variety of solvents, internal and topical applications.
Harvesting Herbs in the Wild Intensive Day
with Keith Davis, ecologist

This day long hands-on workshop allows participants to explore the plants of the region, their uses and best harvesting practices.
Participants will learn:

what to look for in the ecology
-
when it is okay to harvest or reasons why not to
-
best times to harvest each plant and why
-
how to go about selecting which plants to harvest with regards to ecological considerations
-
and why you might choose one plant over another when harvesting
Participants should be prepared to get “down and dirty” while harvesting and are encouraged to bring gloves, clippers and bags to harvest into.
